Golden Gate Transit System
Golden Gate Transit operates bus services primarily in Marin and Sonoma counties with some service in Contra Costa County and San Francisco. The system also operates two ferry lines into San Francisco. The system also owns the Golden Gate Bridge. From 1999-2004, ridership declined 15% from 11.5 million to 9.8 million. In the same time frame, on-time percentages declined from 87% to 82%. The system is mainly known for the Golden Gate Bridge, which was built in 1937. At the time, it was the longest bridge span in the world. Tolls are charged to south-bound vehicles. |
